Issue
The Riding Name Change Act, 2014 was announced in the Canada Gazette on June 19, 2014. This Act changed the riding names for 31 of the 338 ridings in the new 2013 Federal Electoral District (FED) Representation order. One name change (Western Arctic to Northwest Territories) is also retroactive to the 2003 FED Representation Order.
Resolution
In response to the adoption of the Act by Elections Canada, Thursday, October 2, 2014, sees the re-release of the six FED data products from the 2011 Census. The 31 riding names have been updated within each of these products to comply with the changes legislated by the Riding Name Change Act, 2014.
For further details on the 31 riding name changes, refer to Federal electoral district name changes.
Please note that only the riding names have changed – the geographic boundaries of the ridings and the data disseminated within the six FED data products have not changed. In addition, products disseminated with the 2003 FED Representation Order will not be updated to reflect the 'Western Arctic to Northwest Territories' name change.
